The end of another week and new numbers to post
Hello blogland. While the calendar now tells us it is ‘officially’ spring, those of us who spend any amount of time in the ‘great outdoor’ certainly know that despite what the calendar says, the elements are really dependent on Mother Nature. And so, after seeing a number of days (still in the ‘official wintertime) the first weekend of spring brought us sunshine, cool...

Remote Post
Here we are half way through another week - a week that has been more like Spring than winter here in the GTA. However, while the temperature is conducive to getting out on the roads for the workouts, it still gets dark by 7:00 p.m. As a result unless you can start the ride early enough, it is down to the basement again!!!

89 Days to go to our "wheel dip" in Vancouver
Can this really be so? Only 89 days until the 2009 Sears National Kids Cancer Ride departs Vancouver and makes its way across the country to Halifax? Yes, this is true and while this seems like a long way in the distance, it is really quite a short period of time when I think about the training the fundraising, and all the other things that still need to be done before we head out! A quick...

Sears Pickering promo ride is a huge success
On Saturday, March 14, 2009 Kari and I set up on our bikes at the Sears Store at Pickering Town Centre for an on-site promo ride to promote the cause and collect donations. We were joined by our 2008 “mentor” Alan Jefferies, and the three of us rode and entertained ourselves, our volunteers, and some of the locals for six hours. A huge word of thanks to Leigh, the Store Manager, and...

Toronto International Bike Show provides an...
On Friday, March 13, 2009 I had the opportunity to go to the Toronto International Bike Show and set up my bike at the Coast to Coast Against Cancer Foundation’s booth to get in three hours of training, to promote the Sears National Kids Cancer Ride, to meet people and talk about what we are going to be doing in June. It was a good chance to chat, hand out some information about the ride and...

Finally ... the call of the great outdoors gets...
After weeks and weeks (okay months and months) of doing all my training indoors on the wind-trainer (either in the basement or at one of the local Sear’s stores) this past weekend the call of the great outdoors was too much to ignore and the conditions seems right. My “condition threshold” was quite low after four months indoors: the temperature was above zero; there was some...

A day of rest, a day of thanks...to amazing...
So what better to do on a day of rest than pay homage to one of the most amazing volunteers from this year’s ride…none other than Tamasin Reno, designer extraordinaire.  Where would we be without her?…hmmm, let me think…no business cards, no posters, no video, no brochures, no banners, no clothes!  My wife Anne, who is often Tamasin’s partner in crime on these great...

Snap Quiz!
If you had a choice, I wonder what you would do? Your choices are: ride 170 km with a group of other National Riders at a Sears store to train and promote the ride on a Saturday; or. ride 190 km alone in your basement the following day; or, ride 8 km outdoors to get to work when the temperature is -16 and the wind chill -26? If this is too hard a decision, I’ll make it...
